ALBANIA – Irene is a co-founder of a company that produces organic herbs and neutraceuticals (combination of “nutrition” and “pharmaceutical”) in Albania while encouraging sustainable agricultural practices and providing employment to local women.
She is a former top executive in banking and finance who has recycled herself as an entrepreneur establishing Natural Alba that exports medical and aromatic plants from Albania, a country with a high level of biodiversity. About 30% of all known European species of plants are represented in Albania, with 27 species and 150 subspecies being endemic. “We at Natural Alba are determined to preserve the environment and to support the work of women harvesting medical and aromatic plants.” They work together with the foundation “Iniciativa e grave në punë” – The Women At Work Initiative – in which she also supports female entrepreneurship in agribusiness as executive director.
