Praveen Selvasekaran combining his love for technology with his love to contribute

INDIA – ebbf member Praveen started Random Hacks of Kindness as a way to join all his capacities to his love for community lead Hackatons (an event in which computer programmers collaborate intensively on software that typically last between a day and a week) through SimpleTechLife. His initiative has become a community of over 5,500 innovators in over 30 countries that are trying to help make the world a better place by developing practical, open source technology solutions to respond to some of the most complex challenges facing humanity. He also played a part in the Public Intelligence Project that was created to raise awareness on the violations of privacy and freedom of expression in South Asia.

Praveen is a computer science engineer passionate about Crowdsourced innovation (services, ideas, or content contributed from a large group of people, especially an online community, instead of using traditional employees or suppliers) and an avid open source programme.

He has contributed, and will again soon, to a project of the US State Department called Tech Camps that deals with training non-profit organisations around the world in technology. He focuses on the intersection of social action with technology and how it impacts community.
