Karyne Hyde applied a very simple methodology at her workplace, to ensure the maintenance of unity in the department, inspired from her participation in the last ebbf London conference.
As the Director of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory in the main Hospital in the Azores, Karyne is trying to manage and encourage her co-workers to find meaning in their work and to build a community in the department. As part of these efforts she had to chose a coordinator for a specific role within the department. She had consultations with all of her colleagues with the aim of identifying the individual who could serve in that capacity. The distinctive idea for the process that she absorbed from the conference was to concentrate these conversations on the qualities that the role required rather than discussing specific names. She said that this way, no employee entered a propaganda mindset, and everyone contributed to maintaining an environment of unity which lead to a consensual name being found to work as a coordinator.
