Harnessing the power of media

UK – Afshin is passionate about the power of film and has started Media Makes Us, a network of media makers looking to harness the power of video to uplift humanity – through highlighting community orientated stories. He explains that “the aim is to help people develop their media skills, nowadays, we have all the tools at our disposable to broadcast ourselves but we often don’t look into ways to be more effective and purposeful with the ideas we are conveying.” Asked about what relevant insights did he draw from the latest #ebbfLondon event for his project, he shared “often I feel like I’m lacking resources and that my efforts are dwarfed by more traditional/larger organisations but through ebbf’s vision, I’ve found that I’m not alone and that the more we invest in re-thinking the foundations of our business, the media will naturally act as a mechanism for truth seeking.” He is also shaping the power of media as a Digital Strategist for Urban Times, a start-up that aims to reinvent online news; by making content creation more democratic, as well as focusing on having meaningful conversations about issues affecting our world.
